a storm and a little cat

rain and wind rage just beyond
plugged eaves troughs overflow
street gutters fill full
clogged catch basins sprout street ponds

a little cat lays near
an enclosed porch corner
uncaring, unmoved, very content
and mostly sleeping

she has endured many
summer storms safe within her porch
this one is no different from
countless ones before, countless ones to form

slowly summer's sun reappears
life emerges from behind sheltering walls
kids play in temporary ponds
cars navigate just beyond

she moves to a warming spot
and sleeps some more
distance thunder roars anew
and a lone ear turns once more
