all that makes a life (the yin)

with the moment of birth
she began losing all that makes a life
first her home of nine months
favorite toys came next
some broke, others misplaced
a tooth here, a tooth there
cherished pets were hugged no more
after college, marriage and a home to keep
a place to visit became an address in her wake
family members passed
friends at forks on time's wondering path
children moved away
soul's sprit snatched by sickness blight
memories melted as ice in spring's growing warmth
the love of her life held hands no more
freedom and independence slipped aside
sold was the house called home for most a life
all that had been acquired became life's dust
finally, left with only life, one day that to was lost

all that makes a life (the yang)

splendid and wonderful adventures graced and blessed her life
during the 87 years she traveled this good Earth
ones all that makes a life
enjoyed life's love for over 60 beautiful years
dancing with him under starry skies
life's work of special education was taught while
raising three children, two boys, one girl
watched with pride as each graduated college
gave a welcoming embrace to each better half
cherished two grandchildren, one girl, one boy
a variety animals can to into her house
dogs, turtles, toads, frogs, lizards, snakes and slimy fish
grew fields of flowers, ate garden fresh in summer shorts
enduring strength beat cancer
not once but twice
went camping, took a train ride to the Grand Canyon
in the end had created countless friends
when totaled, all that makes a life was the prize awarded
reunited with life's love her ultimate gift
