return to homeland

all i want
all i desire
simply i ask for
a return to homeland

having grown
no longer do i play
i turned that page
words forever hidden

yet homeland existed
i felt it, i tasted it, i recall it
without warning then ceased
becoming a time that was

with dad having passed
mom lives with
her life memories lost
snatched away

left without an ability
to tell our tales
oral history becomes
songs no longer sung

thinking back we hope
to be reassured
instead become fearful
seeing homeland's fading lights
